Last year, more Facebook users changed their status to single than in a relationship — 24 percent versus 31 percent.

That juicy tidbit counts among many that lie in this infographic on how Facebook affects our relationships, rendered by our friends at Online Dating University.

Only three out of every five users show their relationship statuses at all, and such listings appear more frequently among Facebookers in the U.S., South Africa, Iceland, the U.K. and Canada.

Let us know in the comments section what you think about these statistics and the other facts appearing in the infographic below.

Mark Zuckerberg Is NOT Shutting Down Facebook On March 15

mark zuckerberg

A silly, fictitious article on WeeklyWorldNews which is a tabloid-style website and was formerly a weekly newspaper, exploded on the internet this weekend by making claims of Mark Zuckerberg to shut down Facebook on 15th of March, 2011.

According to the article:

“Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants his old life back and desires to put an end to all the madness.”

The news is fake because:

  • WeeklyWorldNews is best known for its similar past scoops such as “Alien Spaceships to Attack Earth in 2011“, “Michelle Obama Pregnant” and “Megan Fox Is a Man“.
  • A company estimated at being worth over $50 billion has got all the reasons to stay alive and active.
  • No official declaration from the Facebook.
  • 500 Million+ Facebook Members wouldn’t let that happen – trust me.

Ironically, despite being a foolish rumor the news spread like fire on the internet with thousands of people sharing it on their facebook walls throughout the world believing it to be true.

But now take a chill pill and relax Facebook is here and it is going to stay for a long long time.

Broadcast By Default, Hunt for the Off Switch

A fairly universal understanding of life is that things should be opt IN, not opt OUT. For example, credit cards. You opt in when you get one. Imagine if banks could decide that, since you have a checking account with them, they’ll automatically enroll you for credit cards, without publishing any sort of notice on your account when you log in, and if you don’t want it, hey, you can simple opt out. Two PhDs from Stanford University started work in the garage of a friend’s. And they were defiantly not building steam engines!

They were, however, creating the internet’s most powerful search engine. Sergey Brin and Larry Page are arguably the world’s most successful Internet entrepreneurs and developers in history. This enabled them to earn billions, while assisting everyone from high school students to particle physicists have an easy time searching for information over the internet.

Is Internet Ok??

OLPC: XO internet access

During the past 10 days or so, most of the sites are showing totally erratic behavior. They’re either not opening up or only some pages are working for them. When you click on the links, they refuse to work. Or text appears but pictures disappear. And after sometime, everything is suddenly normal. No, it’s not any evil spirit. I don’t believe in that. Then?

First, I thought the interruptions are happening to high-traffic content sites. But no; it’s true even for one-visitor-a-day kind of company sites also. As I couldn’t find any pattern in this change, it seems to be all random. This could be a local problem also in my area (I live in New Delhi, India and use a Wi-Fi connection for Internet access.)

If other users are also facing such a problem, they may use the “Comments” section with this article to share their experiences
